Town Hall Grill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Leathery burgers, comically undersized portions, and a misfit crew of rude staff make the Town Hall Grill a perfect addition to the Burn List. I took my brother, Alex, here over the weekend and was astonished by the impudent hostess, servers, and even management at this unrefined T.G.I. Friday's wannabe. It is obvious that their prestigious Southern Village address is the only quality that ushers in their high-paying Chapel Hill clientèle. The calamari appetizer ($10) was at best four ounces of overcooked, unpalatable squid served with a nightmare inducing dipping sauce. The cheeseburger was overcooked and despite the $11 price tag, was not made with in-house ground beef. The $8 quesadilla was made using a 6-inch tortilla with microwaved chicken and only partially melted cheese. With tip the meal came to $40 and several hours of regret.

Town Hall Grill advertises, "an eclectic menu that infuses Southwestern flavors" on their website. Lies, lies, lies. The fare at Town Hall is neither eclectic nor intellectually stimulating; if anything it screams generic sports bar. If you want a meal memorable for its creativity and vivid flavors, walk three shops down to Merlion for some of the best Asian cuisine Chapel Hill has to offer.
